We all know that the Chinese like to imitate. Clothes, bags, cell phones or cars, you name it they fake it. But the fact that they even imitate European cities is next level.
Last weekend, we decided to go to Holland Village, a small fake Dutch town in an industrialised part of Pudong that looks like a typical village from the Netherlands. After a 30-minute drive by taxi (around 60RMB), we were dropped off at a European-style church. We were immediately impressed by how nicely everything looked. Being both from Belgium, it kind of reminded us of home! Besides the fact that it looks like a Dutch village, there is not much to do and see. You’ll find a lot of fake shop windows instead of a real supermarket or a nice little restaurant, giving the town a very artificial feel. But aside from this, it’s a very peaceful and green environment. We suggest going to this fake Dutch town if you want to escape the hustle and bustle from the crowded center of Shanghai.
Next up in our list of fake villages: Thames Town, a fake English village in Shanghai.
